Ferrari 288 GTO was introduced in 1984, a year before the famous Testarossa and 3 years prior to the unveiling of the long anticipated F40. The goal of Ferrari was to create a FIA Group B car worthy of its predecessors, the 250 GTO especially. Despite being lesser known than its younger siblings the 288 GTO, with only 278 units ever produced, is actually a rarer example of the Ferrari breed. What’s even more interesting the Ferrari 288 GTO in Evoluzione version were used as a platform when developing the F40.

Ferrari 288 GTO featured a independent suspension on all for wheels and a aerodynamic body perfected in a wind tunnel. The car was powered by an all-new twin-turbo V8 four-valves-per-cylinder engine developing an impressive 400 bhp, which was initially designed for Lancia rally team. Thanks to its lightweight body the 288 GTO accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in about 5 seconds and was capable of reaching a top speed of 190 mph. Read the rest of this entry »
